I am definitely in favour of epistemic humility! And yes, I think you've put your finger on the probelm: rejecting theory never really means rejecting theory, because you have to have some framework that lets you join the pieces or fill in the gaps! But if you don't think about what it is, old, traditional theories just slip into place unquestioned.
